Flavor training (not to be confused with starting solids) is a prepatory phase to starting solids. It takes advantage of the 'window of opportunity' whereby infants, around the age of 4-7 months, are very receptive to a wide range of different flavors. By intoducing a wide range of vegetable flavors, early and often, we can start to lay down the foundation for healthy eating preferences and practices. This phase is not about providing nutrition (which should be coming from breast milk or formula), but exposing baby to a wide range of very small 'tastes'. When baby does need nutrition from solid foods, which is generally around 6 months of age, they are well on the road to accepting a wide range of healthy food offerings.
